THINGS I SEE

Dance Performance by Birgit Freitag
in collaboration with Riccardo Castagnola, Neus Ledesma Vidal, and Maja Spence

We see a person. We perceive and draw our conclusions. Who is this person? Is she a stranger to us? Is she similar to us? We feel connected, become curious, or suspicious—all within the blink of an eye. In the setting of a runway, the dancer Neus Ledesma Vidal confronts a multitude of attributes ascribed to her, created through movement, fashion, and sound. Things I See plays with the parameters of perception and projection, creating an artistic space where the dancer engages with and deconstructs the images imposed upon her. Things I See is a performative exploration of the powerful need for categorization and classification, where ultimately every viewer sees through their own lens.
