rebonico 2021/22

»Ball Pla« is a popular dance celebrated in different regions of València and Catalunya. Its steps are soft and the feet slide always close to the floor. Those dances in the traditional society were spontaneous, open to everyone and strengthened social connections. Today, Ball Pla is an exhibition of the local Folklore, a strong symbol of identity and celebration of the town’s heritage.

Halfway between étude and homage, we analysed an ongoing tradition and its rituals, to abstract the essence and understand why it remains socially so celebrated. Drawing on the personal experience of dancing Ball Pla in Sant Mateu, »rebonico« looks into its origins and historical evolution, the rhythm and the actual structure to juxtapose it with contemporary movement and composition.
